Switches are marvelous things. They are ALWAYS used in a game. You can't really make a good game without 'em. What is a Switch? A switch on RPGMaker acts like a real life switch. It turns things on and off. Such as, say, you wanted the hero to find an item, but didn't want it to repeat over and over. How is this done? First of all, make the event in which the hero gets the item. At the end of this, add "Switch Operations" and then choose a spare switch and name it "ITEM STOP"(you can call it whatever you want, it has no effect on the game). After this at the top of the event box is a button called "New Page". Click this then go to page 2. Now, we need to "turn on" this event, don't we? That's basically whats happening. Because the switch was turned on, the event on this new page is activated and the coding on this page will now repeat itself like only when you had one page. ANYWAY... at the top left is a check box labelled "Start conditions. Switch operations" will be below it. Check this and then choose the switch you just made. Add something like "There's nothing here..." on a message command and click apply. Also make sure you change the Event Graphic unless you want it to be invisable then choose "Same Layer as Hero" on one of the drop down boxes to the left. Whahey! Complete! I'll leave you with these final words:
